Apple iPhone 14: What’s new?
Apple will be releasing the brand-new iPhone 14 next Friday, the 16th of September in the UK, and it is said to be their ‘most advanced’ smartphone yet.
Like every apple update, there are new features to look out for on the four new models: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Whilst the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are considered the more affordable of the bunch, the iPhone 14 Pro Max remains the largest in size at 6.7 inches long and the most expensive.
Physically, the iPhones feature the same durability as the iPhone 13 thanks to the Ceramic Shield front cover, which is tougher than any other smartphone glass.
The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be available in four striking new colours: space black, silver, gold, and deep purple.
The iPhone 14 is available in five colours: Blue, Purple, Midnight, Starlight and Red.

Camera improvements
Starting with the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, they both come with a 12 mega-pixel camera that will suit a more casual customer. The camera features a brighter flash, wide angle capability and action mode for videoing, which picks up on shaking, motion, and vibrations.
The Pro and Pro Max have a first-of-its-kind 48-megapixel camera instead, which may be more attractive to photographers or those that prioritise camera quality.
Interestingly, all four phones also allow for improved low-light photography, which is twice the quality of the iPhone 13.
A16 Bionic Chip
The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will be powered by a A16 Bionic chip – the fastest chip found in any smartphone. This chip allows the smartphone to easily handle demanding workload and has 50% more memory bandwidth – perfect for supporting graphics-intensive games and apps.
Dynamic Island
The new Dynamic Island feature provides the user with a real-time, immersive notification experience that shows important alerts, notifications, and activities at the top of the screen.
Always-on Display (for iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max only)
The Always-on display helps to preserve battery life like never before by intelligently darkening the phone’s wallpaper and showing only important display content like time, widgets, and live-activity on the lock screen.
Emergency SOS via satellite and Crash Detection
Much like the latest Apple Watch release, the entire iPhone 14 collection is able to detect G-force measurements of up to 256Gs and a new high dynamic range gyroscope.
Crash Detection can detect a severe car crash and automatically dial emergency services when a user is unconscious or unable to reach their iPhone.
Emergency SOS via satellite stands out from the crowd as it allows users to manually share their location over satellite with the ‘Find My’ app when there is no cellular or Wi-Fi connection. This will be reassuring for users who find themselves off the grid when camping, hiking and more. This service will be available in the US and Canada in November and will be free for 2 years.
eSim
iPhone’s of the past have always featured a Sim tray that can be opened with the provided tool in order to swap sim cards.
However, Apple are introducing eSim to US iPhone’s – a digital sim card that is affixed onto the handsets motherboard and cannot be physically removed by the consumer.
Unfortunately, there are limitations to the eSim. Many people are concerned that travelling abroad could become problematic as you will no longer be able to purchase a local sim card for abroad data usage.
Greg Joswiak, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing has said:
