Digital Marketing Recruitment: Employee sentiments revealed!
Digital marketing recruitment has evolved over the years, with competition for talent now higher than ever. However, it’s not just about acquiring talent; employees are more vocal about their needs, necessitating rapid shifts in retention strategies as well.
Thanks to our 2024 digital salary survey report, we’ve been able to collect employee sentiments to see how professionals are feeling in the industry right now. For this blog, we will be delving into the data from respondents working in digital marketing departments. Are they happy with their current salary? Do they feel their workload is too intense? It’s time to find out!
Digital Marketing salaries – did they increase?
Looking at all respondents across the digital industry, 54% saw their salary increase in the last 12 months. According to data from digital marketing respondents, 65% received a pay rise. This is a promising sign, indicating that the value of digital marketers has been recognised over the past 12 months.
However, when we asked respondents to rank their salary satisfaction out of ten, the digital marketing segment gave an average score of 5.2/10. Despite an increase in salary, it doesn’t necessarily mean it was what the employee had in mind. Should salary progression be more clear-cut? Our digital marketing respondents certainly think so, ranking their company pay progression scheme 4.6/10. From these statistics, it appears there are still discussions to be had about salary progression and meeting employees’ expectations.
Diversity in the marketing workforce
Having recently discussed diversity & inclusion within the digital industry, it’s clear the topic is still important. Let’s see what digital marketing professionals have to say! When asked to rank the diversity of their workforce, they shared an average score of 6.3/10. The overall score from all respondents was 6.2/10. So, it seems to be a common sentiment across departments. While it is over the halfway mark, it shows there is still some work to do to get this score higher. Improved efforts in recruiting diverse talent and continued focus on inclusive policies are vital for this to increase next year.
Digital Marketing team growth
During times of economic uncertainty, digital marketing teams may discover opportunities for growth by adapting their strategies and embracing innovative approaches to navigate challenges effectively. However, have companies been holding back on hiring more digital marketing talent?
24% of digital marketing respondents shared that their team has grown, while 40% said their team had shrunk. That leaves 36% who shared that the team size stayed the same. It is quite a surprise to see that the majority are reporting team reductions. When asked to elaborate, respondents shared the following…
- Departed employees not being replaced
- Redundancies
- Budgetary reasons
- Dissatisfaction with salaries
Mental health and well-being
Are digital marketing professionals satisfied with their current roles and responsibilities? Currently, 26% believe they perform best working remotely, while 74% prefer a hybrid setup. With no one choosing ‘full time in the office,’ it’s clear that employers should continue offering hybrid working arrangements to enhance employee performance and satisfaction.
We also asked respondents to rate their workload on a scale of one to ten. In the digital marketing segment, the average score was 7/10, where ten indicates a ‘heavy workload.’ This rating suggests a significant workload, prompting employers to recognise potential long-term negative impacts. Respondents noted increased stress, growing frustration and challenges with work-life balance as some effects associated with heavy workloads.
